1. Measure and specify (before the day)
Opening width and height, headroom above the opening, side room, and the backroom depth. These determine the track type. A door quoted without these measurements is a guess.
2. Remove the old door safely
Spring tension is wound down in a controlled way first. Anyone cutting cables or removing brackets on a tensioned door is doing something dangerous.
3. Fit the tracks and check plumb
Vertical tracks plumb, horizontal tracks level and correctly spaced. This is where a rushed job shows up later as binding and premature roller wear.
4. Stack the sections and fit hardware
Sections go in from the bottom, with hinges and rollers fitted as they stack. The bottom bracket is the one under full spring load once tensioned.
5. Springs sized to the actual door
This matters. Springs are specified to the door weight and drum size, not chosen generically.
The commonest shortcut on a new install is reusing whatever spring is on the van. A mis-sized spring gives you a door that never balances properly and wears out early.

6. Balance, then the opener
