A cable never fails all at once. It loses strands quietly for months. The dust on the floor under the drum is usually the first clue anyone notices.

Why a broken cable is more than an inconvenience
When one cable parts, the door is being lifted at one corner only. It racks in the tracks, usually jams, and frequently comes off track entirely — which bends sections and can pull the track from the wall. What was a modest cable replacement becomes a much larger repair.

- Stop using the door. Every cycle costs strands.
- Do not attempt replacement yourself — the cable is under full spring load at the bottom bracket.
- Replace both cables, not one. They have done identical work.
- Have the drums checked at the same time; a rough drum is often what damaged the cable.
