Using it in a power cut
- Close the door if it is not already closed.
- Pull the cord down and back, away from the door, until the trolley disconnects.
- Lift the door by hand. It should feel light — roughly ten pounds at the handle.
- If it feels heavy, stop. That is a spring problem, not a power problem.
Re-engaging
Most units re-engage by pulling the cord back toward the door, or simply by running the Garage Door Opener until the trolley clicks in. Do not force the carriage by hand.
Security note
- From outside, a release cord can sometimes be reached through the top of the door with a hook.
- If your garage connects to the house, ask about a shield or a tie that prevents this without stopping legitimate use.
- Never remove the release entirely — it is a required safety feature.
