Salt gets the attention, but humidity affects every Florida garage, inland or not. It shows up in three specific ways.
1. Lubricant does not stay put
Heat thins grease and it runs off. A door lubricated in January can be running dry by June. This is the main reason we recommend twice-yearly servicing here rather than annually.
2. Surface corrosion on unprotected steel
Springs, cables and unpainted brackets take on surface rust in humid air even without salt. It is slower than coastal corrosion but it is the same process, and it is why an unlubricated spring in Florida rarely reaches its rated cycles.
3. Electronics
Control boards, sensor units and remotes all dislike condensation. Boards that fail in September often took their damage over a whole humid summer, with a storm surge as the final straw.
Inland customers assume the coast has all the corrosion problems. The interval is longer here, but the process is the same.

Practical steps
- Service twice a year, not once.
- Keep the garage ventilated where you can — trapped humid air is worse than moving humid air.
- Fix a failing bottom seal promptly; standing water raises humidity inside considerably.
- Consider a surge protector on the Garage Door Opener circuit.

That is the theory. Here is the reality. It is the largest opening in the building. If it goes, wind gets inside, and pressure then builds against the roof structure from underneath.

Finding out what yours is rated for
There should be a label inside the door, usually on one of the sections or on the track.
One more thing, because it matters. It states a design pressure — how much positive and negative pressure the assembly can take. Positive is wind pushing in. Negative is suction pulling out.
Suction is what usually takes a door, which is why anything that only resists inward push is not enough on its own.
No label anywhere? Assume it is unrated until somebody proves otherwise. You will notice it long before it becomes urgent, if you know to look.

Every visit runs the same way, whatever the original complaint was. It is quicker than it sounds, and it stops us treating a symptom and calling it a fix.
- Confirm the door is rated for your address, and that the label is still there and readable.
- Tighten every track bracket and lag bolt — wind finds loose fixings first.
- Check the bottom seal, because a failed seal lets water in with no wind at all.
- Test the balance and both safety reverses.
- Look for rust at the bottom section, especially within a few miles of salt water.
- Confirm the opener has a working battery backup.
If something on that list is worn but not urgent, we say so and give you a rough idea how long it has left. That way you can plan instead of react. Most people find this out the expensive way.

A retrofit bracing kit engineered and approved for your specific door does work — and it is far cheaper than replacing the door. Most people find this out the expensive way.

If you take one thing away from all of that: a door that is balanced, lubricated and has working safety reverses will outlast one that is not. By years, not months.
